CONSUMER DESIRES FOR COMFORT AND SECURITY DRIVES
COLOR GUILD’S 2009 PAINT TRENDS

The Color Canvas 2009 Collection features five-up-and-coming trends
and 35 colors available exclusively at Color Guild member locations.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – January 2, 2009 – Color Guild, the global paint
authority, has announced the emerging trends in paint colors expected
to influence both interior and exterior paint selections throughout the
year.

“One of the overriding paint trends in 2009 will be the return to
elemental colors,” said Lynn Ludlow, Color Guild color consultant. “A
focus on the state of the global economy, as well as the environment
will bring consumers back to neutral colors, such as muted yellows,
soft grays, café browns and kakis, in the home.”

Color Guild 2009 paint trends are derived by researching and
observing color trends and social issues around the globe, including
ecological issues, technology discoveries, political issues and even
sporting events.

According to Robert Shapiro, Color Guild executive director, there are
five main paint color trends that will be hitting homes in 2009. The
trends have been labeled Ease, Earthwatch, Exploration, Evolution and
Expression.

Ease: For too many consumers, life is fast-paced and complex. The
Ease color collection focuses on the trend to simplify and slow down
life. This color palette of soft grays, muted greens and soothing lilac
allows consumers to bring peace and serenity back into their home.

Color Guild’s Ease color palette includes: Leisure, Simplistic, Recoup,
Natural, Purity, Chill and Response.

Earthwatch: Sustainability is now a global initiative for every citizen
on the planet. From fresh water to clean air, the Earthwatch color
collection re-introduces natural colors as a simple reminder of how to
make planet Earth a better home. The Earthwatch color palette allows
consumers to surround themselves with organic colors featuring earth
tones blended with ocean blue.

Color Guild’s Earthwatch color palette includes: Ozone, Element,
Flora, Continental, Tidal, Mineral Dust and Magical Moon.

Exploration: Our world continues to shrink, while our social
conscience expands. More than ever, consumers are traveling beyond
their home borders to learn and do more. These experiences are
resulting in a blend of cultural influences that are filtering into the
home. The Exploration palette is an assortment of colors that are
hopeful and optimistic, including café browns, kakis and deep reds.

Color Guild’s Exploration color palette includes: Discover, Journey,
Navigate, Darwin, Sahara Fire, Columbus and Trek.

Evolution: The global focus on reducing waste by recycling and
repurposing products is changing the behavior of consumers and
businesses alike. The Evolution color palette reflects this lifecycle focus
with muted yellows and taupes.

Color Guild’s Evolution color palette includes: Metaphor, Progress,
Advancement, Perfection, Maturation, Betterment and Influence.

Expression: While we all reach out to protect and serve our planet,
we must also maintain our own individual identities. This trend reveals
itself through a palette of vibrant colors the Color Guild has coined
“Expression” that range from organic greens, and colorful peaches to
dramatic purples.

Color Guild’s Expression color palette includes: Personality Plus,
Organic, Drama, Symbol, Henna, Thumbprint and Unique.

CONSUMER DESIRE FOR COMFORT DRIVES COLOR GUILD’S
2009 COMMERCIAL & CONTRACT PAINT TRENDS

New palette includes 11 colors exclusively available at Color Guild
member locations.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – January 2, 2009 – Color Guild, the global paint
authority, has announced the emerging trends in paint colors expected
to influence commercial building interiors throughout 2009.

“The main driver in the emerging commercial and contract paint trends
is the home,” said Pat Verlodt, Color Guild color consultant.
“Consumers want the comforting colors of their homes to cross over
into places where they spend significant time. This is precisely why
the Color Guild commercial and contract color palette is moving toward
intense and sophisticated earthy colors, supported by optimistic hues
that are mature in style and classic in feel.”

According to Robert Shapiro, Color Guild executive director, the main
colors emerging in commercial buildings over the next year include
warm and rich browns, earthy oranges, bright yellows, conservative
reds, true blues and mid-tone to light grays.

The basic colors in the commercial and contract palette are Worn,
beige with a warm red cast, and Camden, a deep, rich brown. Both
colors are influenced by the browns currently popular in consumer
products.

Earthy oranges such as Portfolio and Rusty add excitement to the
browns in the palette. Yellows appear as a promise of bright colors to
help consumers be more optimistic in difficult economic times with
Exalts.

Red, still a popular paint color, appears in deeper, more conservative
shades of Sumptuous. Blue, the most optimistic color in the palette
appears with a red undertone as Edge and more true blues such as
Innovative are also included.

Most of these deeper tones appear in fabrics and carpets and are
supported by complex neutral paint colors, such as Jungle – a neutral

warm gray with a slight green undertone, Dapple - gray beige neutral,
and Mademoiselle - neutral gray.

COLOR GUILD EXPERTS MATCH HISTORIC PAINT COLORS TO
HELP CONSUMERS SELECT TRENDY COMBINATIONS

The Color Guild has created a new Historic Colors of America
combination deck and color card featuring unique combinations of
historically accurate paint colors.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – January 2, 2009 – From Beetroot red and Curry
yellow to Biloxi Blue and Blue Winged Teal, our forefathers (and
mothers) displayed a decidedly bold palette when it came to choosing
colors for their early American homes, barns and places of worship.

Now, with the help of the Color Guild, a global paint and color
authority working hand-in-hand with Historic New England, licensor of
the color chart, combinations of these vivid and vibrant colors have
been created to reflect current and future design trends.

The new Historic Colors of America combination deck features 20
interior color combinations and 20 exterior color combinations while
the combination color card showcases 24 three-color groups for a total
of 72 colors. All colors appearing in the deck and on the card have
been carefully selected from the Historic Colors of America palette,
which is comprised of 149 interior and exterior colors.

These historically accurate colors were created from actual paint
samples taken from historic buildings and historic artifacts such as folk
carvings and corner cupboards.

Robert Shapiro, Color Guild executive director, says the new color
combinations reflect yesterday’s classics while giving ample
consideration to future trends. “Color Guild and preservation experts
worked together to create special combinations that reflect the latest
color trends, while working with this centuries old color palette,” said
Shapiro.

“Whether restoring an old plantation home or building a new suburban
townhouse, the Historic Color combinations provide an historically
accurate assortment of pre-matched colors to choose from.”

Consumers can obtain the combination deck or card, as well as the
Historic Colors of America card and fan deck at Color Guild member
locations. Visit www.colorguild.com for a list of members.
